Lucknow: The state govt rushed to help a destitute family in Lakhimpur Kheri after a video showing its abject poverty surfaced on social media recently.

The family, with two visually impaired daughters, was struggling to get a ration card. However, without an Aadhaar card and a bank account, they were unable to get the ration card.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognizance of the matter and directed district magistrate Durga Shakti Nagpal to immediately visit the family in Hania Tola and provide it with all necessary help.

On Saturday, the administration ensured that all essential supplies reached it while action was initiated to include the family members in all relevant govt schemes.

"Soon, they will receive a food card and other necessary support," Nagpal said.

Pratap, the head of the family, lost his wife two years ago. He lives with his three daughters and two sons. His two daughters, Somi and Moni, are visually impaired.

"Pratap has been struggling to provide for his family, but poverty continued to overshadow his efforts. However, the CM's personal intervention brought them much-needed relief," Nagpal said. Among items delivered to the family were 15 kg rice, 15 kg wheat flour, 10 kg potatoes, 2 kg onions, 1 kg tomatoes, 1 litre mustard oil, 1 kg salt, packets of spices and 3 kg arhar dal.
