IMD Weather Alert: Heatwave Warning for UP, MP, Rajasthan, and More as Temperatures Soar by Up to 6°C

New Delhi, April 21 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave warning for several states across North, Central, and Eastern India. Temperatures are expected to rise by 2 to 6°C over the next few days, with the mercury touching dangerous highs in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Vidarbha. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir continues to battle erratic weather and may receive more rain and storms.

According to IMD’s forecast:

  • South Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh: Heatwave conditions from April 22 to April 24

  • Rajasthan and Haryana: Heatwave likely on April 23 and 24

  • Vidarbha region: High temperatures expected from April 21 to 23

  • Gujarat: Extremely hot weather likely between April 22 and 24

  • Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal: Humid and oppressive weather conditions till April 22

IMD has advised people in these regions to stay indoors during peak hours and remain hydrated to avoid heatstroke or dehydration.

  • Northwest India: Daytime temperatures may increase by 2–3°C over the next 5 days

  • Central India: From April 23, max temperatures may rise by 2–3°C

  • Eastern India: Some regions may see a spike of up to 6°C, particularly in isolated pockets

This temperature rise may push many regions into above-normal heat levels, prompting an Orange Alert in parts of North and Central India.

While central and northern regions bake under rising heat, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad are expected to receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms on April 21, accompanied by wind speeds of 40–50 km/h. IMD has issued an Orange Alert for these areas.

  • East India: Light to moderate rain expected over the next 3 days

  • Chhattisgarh: Rain likely to continue till April 24

  • Northeast India: Rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds predicted during the next 5 days
