'Ask your paw paw ...': Congress mocks BJP's Sonia Gandhi voter row; calls it 'good photoshop'

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Thursday hit back at the BJP 's allegations that Sonia Gandhi possessed a voter ID card years before she became a citizen of India.

Taking a swipe at the saffron party, Congress directed its pointed attack, "Your photoshop is really good." In a sharper dig aimed at PM Modi, the party said, "Ask your paw paw nrndrmdi to give a better idea."

On X, Congress Kerala posted: "Your photoshop is really good, except for one mistake. The National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT) was constituted by the 69th Constitutional Amendment Act of 1991. It was Union Territory of Delhi in 1980. Ask your paw paw nrndrmdi to give a better idea."

Meanwhile, another Opposition MP, this time from the Trinamool Congress , targeted Amit Malviya in a post on X: "BJP’s IT cell coolie has posted a FORGED document. 'National Capital Territory of Delhi' was created on 2nd Jan, 1992. The document shared by this man is supposedly dated from the year 1980 when 'NCT of Delhi' didn’t exist."

TMC MP added, "Forgery is a crime punishable with 7 years imprisonment under Sec 336(3) of BNS. Does the vote-chor ECI have the guts to file an FIR against BJP’s IT cell head for forging their document?"

The remarks came after the BJP on Wednesday sought to turn the tables on Congress over its campaign against alleged " vote theft ," accusing Sonia Gandhi of being enrolled twice as a voter without renouncing her Italian citizenship.

"Sonia Gandhi's name entered the electoral rolls twice without meeting the basic citizenship requirement — first as an Italian citizen in 1980, and then again in 1983, months before she legally became a citizen of India. We are not even asking why it took her 15 years after marrying Rajiv Gandhi to accept Indian citizenship. If this isn't blatant electoral malpractice, what is?" said BJP IT department head Amit Malviya.

Sonia Gandhi’s tryst with India’s voters’ list is riddled with glaring violations of electoral law. This perhaps explains Rahul Gandhi’s fondness for regularising ineligible and illegal voters, and his opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

On X, Malviya posted a copy of the electoral roll form from the official residence of then PM Indira Gandhi, claiming Sonia’s name was added during the revision of rolls with January 1, 1980, as the qualifying date.

The BJP raised the issue of Sonia Gandhi’s name in the voter list amid the ongoing ruckus and debate over the Election Commission, which intensified further after Rahul Gandhi’s lengthy press conference accusing the poll body of misconduct in the recently held elections.
