Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola snapped back at a Sky Sports reporter after Arsenal snatched a late draw against his side on Sunday. The Citizens led from the ninth minute at the Emirates Stadium after Erling Haaland notched his sixth Premier League goal of the campaign. But Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench to fire in an equaliser three minutes into stoppage time at the end of the match to grab the hosts a share of the spoils.
City have endured an intense run of fixtures over the last week, with the eight-time Premier League champions defeating Manchester United 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium last Sunday ahead of a 2-0 victory over Napoli in the Champions League on Thursday evening. The team also played in the Club World Cup over the summer after already playing 57 games in all competitions throughout the 2024/25 campaign.
Guardiola spoke to Sky Sports reporter Patrick Davison after the final whistle in north London to assess his side's performance. And the reporter asked the 54-year-old about City's schedule, which seemed to frustrate the Spaniard.
Guardiola sighed as he pondered his response, with Davison adding: "Fair question, no?"
And the Citizens boss exclaimed: "You are the journalist, my friend. You understand my process. Ten years we had together. We had a lot of fatigue with so many players injured.
"So many things can happen, but if we want to bring in the fact that no one complained about the schedule, that's okay. I am complaining for the schedule. Are you satisfied?"
The Sky man laughed awkwardly and then thought Guardiola had had enough of the interview after the ex-Barcelona manager shuffled. And Davison blurted out: "No, no, wait. Oh sorry, I thought you were going."
The interview eventually continued, with Guardiola clearly disappointed that his team had been unable to hold out for three points.
Discussing City's recent matches, Guardiola stated: "We played tough games this week - Manchester United and in the Champions League [against Napoli] - and today we played against a powerful team.
"Hats off to our team for the resilience. It's so difficult when you're not effective with high pressing. It's always tough in the build-up. We made some transitions. I think the result is fair - in general Arsenal were better."
And the Spaniard added: "Since the transfer window finished, the togetherness has been top. It was so demanding today and Arsenal have everything - we defended the corners so well. We'll take the point - we have to improve, but it is what it is.
"We were incredibly tired. The game against Napoli was so emotional and after that recovery day we have four or five hours to travel to London.
"Arsenal fought in the last two Premier League title races and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League, so it's so difficult."
