Carpet is warmer and cosier than wooden flooring, but it can take a bit more effort to keep clean. Dirt, dust, hair and other debris can collect among the fibres and ruin the appearance of your carpet - and turn it into a hotbed of bacteria. Aside from that, stains quickly gather on carpets, and the longer they are left, the harder they are to deal with.
Taking to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page, Ffion Wright claimed that shaving foam is the key to clearing stains from carpets. She found that this household product worked when specialised stain removers didn't. Ffion wrote: "I have tried so many high street stain removers to get stains out of different areas around the house, and they just wouldn't budge.

"I cannot believe the results I had with such a cheap and easy product - shaving foam. Nothing's worked better than this.
"I used it on my carpets, mattress and sofas. The stains have just vanished - finally!"
Ffion took before and after pictures, and the dark brown marks had completely disappeared.
A group member in the comments asked how to use shaving foam on carpet stains, to which Ffion replied: "It is so easy. Leave for 10 minutes, check and rub again and then leave another 10 minutes and wipe with a damp cloth."
Surfactants are the leading reason why shaving cream can be an effective carpet cleaning solution. Surfactants can help clean carpet stains by lifting and dissolving stain particles from your carpet.
Many shaving foams also contain glycerin, a solution that locks in moisture and removes stains while preventing carpets from drying out when cleaning.
Other skin-soothing agents, like aloe vera, are sometimes used in shaving creams and can promote a gentle cleaning process when working out tough carpet stains.
If you do decide to use this method on carpet stains, make sure to opt for shaving foam instead of cream, as the majority are coloured and can therefore discolour carpets.
