This man and his family have been pulled into their neighbours' "petty" note war over something that wasn't their fault.
Having issues and disagreements with your is common, no matter where you live. However, they can often be more prevalent when you live in a block of flats, as your neighbours are often closer to you and are more affected by things like noise.
It's almost always better to speak to your neighbour if you have a complaint so that you can reach a mutual arrangement that makes everyone happy and allows you to continue living side-by-side.
This doesn't always happen, however, and one man has found out firsthand that some neighbours will resort to leaving "petty" messages for one another outside of their flats.
In a post on , the man said two of the people in his block of flats have been exchanging heated notes by taping them to one of the windows in the communal hallway - and they've mistakenly gotten him involved.
Sharing pictures of the notes, the man explained that the neighbours are at war because one of them keeps smoking inside their apartment. The first note that was left tells the neighbour to "stop smoking" as they live in a "smoke-free apartment" and the smell is off-putting.
In response, the smoking neighbour left a note saying they should "move" if they have a problem with the smell, and then argued that they make the building smell just as bad thanks to their dogs.
They wrote: "Maybe you should move! Plus, your dogs stink up the whole building as well. We pay rent here too and should have the right to do what we like."
Sending back another scathing response, the first note-leaver wrote: "You lost that right when you signed the lease to a non-smoking complex. Maybe you should have read the lease! So please stop."
However, the man said there's just one problem with the escalating argument - he's the only person in the building who owns dogs, and he's not the one who left the note.
But he did leave his own message after realising he'd been "dragged" into their fight. He said, "Hi, dog owners here. We are not involved in this."
He also clarified in a post alongside the pictures that the building actually doesn't have a no-smoking policy, so his neighbour is free to continue smoking in their flat if they so wish.
In his caption, he wrote: "Saw this note this morning and thought it was funny that we were the assumed note-leavers in the building. There's been a constant note war going on for a year now, where notes have been put up asking people to stop smoking in their apartments.
"Of course, these don't deter the smokers, and the complex doesn't have a no-smoking policy. We are the only dog owners and know this is what apartment living is like with the smoking. This is our response to being dragged into this fight."
Commenters on the post found the petty note war amusing - with many saying they would have joined in the conversation just to say something "so random" it would throw everyone off.
One person said: "I love reading apartment drama like this, I'm so nosy." Another added: "I would want to join the conversation too. But I would post something so random to throw everyone off."
The man later returned to the comments to offer an update in which he said the notes have now been taken down. He also said that while smoking is allowed inside the flats and on the patio outside, it is not allowed in any common areas.
