made a comment that could be seen as a "jibe" at her life in Britain in . In episode five of Confessions of a Female Founder, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, sat down with her friend Hannah Mendoza, co-founder of Clevr Blends - which Meghan has invested in.
As well as talking all things business, Mendoza and Meghan compared their feelings about California - a place they now call home. While Meghan only lived in the UK for a short time, leaving it behind in 2020 when she quit royal life with her husband Prince Harry, Mendoza grew up in the UK, giving the pair plenty to talk about. In their chat, Mendoza opened up about how life in California is a "different lifestyle".
She said: 'When I got here (California), I'd never been on a single hike, I'd never pitched a tent. Frankly, I was smoking Marlboro Reds and would casually put back a bottle of tequila at the weekends.
"When I was in London we started going clubbing when I was just 14. It was a very different lifestyle."
Meghan then replied: "So you get on the other side on the pond, you come out here, you meet a whole different vibe and energy around you, and you start hiking and you start seeing the world through a different lens, and then what happens?"
While Meghan did not mention her own royal life in the UK, it is believed that the comment of how her friend likely felt arriving in California from the UK may be a reflection of her own feelings, as
This would not be the first time the duchess would have pointed out cultural differences between California, where she now lives with Prince Harry and their two children, and the UK.
Speaking on the Netflix docuseries Harry and Meghan in 2022 about her first time meeting Prince William and Princess Kate, Meghan
She said: "I was a hugger. I've always been a hugger, I didn't realise that that is really jarring for a lot of Brits. I guess I started to understand very quickly that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside."
She also explained how she felt like Hollywood was perceived very differently in Britain than in the US. When talking about being introduced to her husband's royal relatives, Meghan said in the docuseries: " funnily enough. There is a big idea of what that looks like from the UK standpoint - Hollywood - and it's just very easy for them to typecast that."
Meghan has not directly mentioned the Royal Family in her podcast series so far.
