Manchester City can deal another blow on Newcastle United's disappointing transfer window, while landing a suckerpunch on rivals Manchester United at the same time. The Blues have already had a busy transfer window, but are being tipped to add even more fresh faces to their squad.
Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Tijjani Reijnders all joined the club prior to the start of the Club World Cup, with James Trafford penning a deal with City last month. The Englishman joined after a drawn-out saga involving Newcastle, with Trafford eventually opting to sign for City instead of the North East-based outfit.
However, City could be about to rub salt in the Newcastle wounds by signing Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is reportedly on the brink of leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer. It's reported by Fabrizio Romano that City are exploring a deal to bring Donnarumma to the Etihad Stadium, with Galatasaray sniffing around Ederson.
As such, it would likely mean Trafford is confined to a season on the bench, when originally it looked as if he would be battling with Ederson for the No.1 spot. Given how Newcastle's summer window has gone so far, missing out on a transfer target to watch him play second fiddle could end up stinging.
The double whammy could come in the shape of City snatching Donnarumma from under the nose of United, who have been touted as a potential suitor for the Italian. Ruben Amorim is believed to be underwhelmed by his current goalkeeper options, with the Red Devils open to making a new signing in that department.
It comes at the same time City are believed to be targeting Real Madrid winger Rodrygo as a replacement for compatriot Savinho. The latter is being chased by Tottenham Hotspur, who are keen to bolster their own attacking options before next month's transfer deadline.
City are adamant they don't want to sell Savinho, unless an offer they're unable to say no to arrives in their inbox. There are suggestions that could require a bid north of £60million, with Savinho said to be open to making the move to north London.
Savinho joined City from sister club Troyes last summer as part of a £30m deal. Doubling their money on a 21-year-old forward, who netted just one Premier League goal last term, could prove an attractive proposition for the 2023 European Champions.
