Kobbie Mainoo has dismissed social media speculation suggesting his eagerness to depart Manchester United after a cryptic post sparked theories about his future. The 20-year-old midfielder was unable to secure an exit from Old Trafford during the closing stages of the transfer window despite pushing for a loan switch.
Although Ruben Amorim overlooked the England international as a starter for United's opening three Premier League fixtures, the head coach remained determined to keep Mainoo at the club. Mainoo featured in the Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby Town last week before making a substitute appearance in United's victory against Burnley.
The academy product turned to social media on Friday to post images of his training regime during the international break.
"Nothing pretty," he captioned on Instagram alongside multiple photographs of his gym session.
However, Mainoo also included an enigmatic image from the critically acclaimed movie Whiplash, referencing the scene where lead character Andrew destroys his drum kit.
Consequently, fans were swift to suggest the puzzling picture hinted at Mainoo's dissatisfaction with his current circumstances at United.

Fan account 'The United Stand' shared the image and questioned whether the post should raise alarm bells or was merely coincidental.
Mainoo replied to the post, commenting 'Stretch', apparently confirming that any rumours or theories stemming from his social media activity are unfounded. The post has sparked a flurry of interest in the past 24 hours after Chelsea's Cole Palmer, a close mate of Mainoo, responded with: "3 my boy" and a red love-heart emoji.
