Gerwyn Price has revealed he withdrew from the PDC Players Championship after being forced into hospital. Price has already won the Poland Darts Masters and Baltic Sea Darts Open this year but was absent from the events this week, which Jeffrey de Graaf and Stephen Bunting went on to win.
Price's absence has since been cleared up with the Iceman posting a photo on social media of a rather red and swollen right hand, while a drip was connected to his arm. The snap was captioned: "Not a bad in sight [laughing emoji]."
Price offered some more information about his current condition on social media, with another post captioned: "Just what I didn't want, back to the hospital it is." However, the exact nature of his problem isn't exactly known.
It isn't the first time Price has suffered with hand-related injuries though, as back in 2022 the former world champion was forced to withdraw from a Premier League night. Speaking at the time he said: "I apologise to everyone, this wasn't the easiest decision. I have done everything I can to get my injury right before I play but unfortunately a few days rest for me. 'Just to clarify that my injury was an accident and nothing to do with my charity boxing training."
It's come at a nightmare time for Price, with the Flanders Darts Trophy, Czech Darts Open and World Series Finals all pencilled in across the coming weeks. Not least because it felt like earlier in the year the Welshman had found his groove and was performing back to his best.
Price opened up about the changes he's made to his routine and lifestyle that have helped him improve performances at the oche. Speaking on the Darts Show Podcast, he said earlier this year: "The main difference for me has been mentally.
"I've tried to be a bit more healthy, I've dropped a bit of weight and I feel good. I've also tried to be more positive, and that's what I've done right through the Premier League. I still hate losing, I still beat myself up, but I'm trying to be more positive and it seems to have worked. I know how well I can play, I know how well I've played this season, and I feel like my game is going to get better now."
