Dick Strawbridge's heartbreaking Angel split confession after 'having a lot of fun'

Dick and Angel Strawbridge are a beloved showbiz couple - but the pair almost called it quits on their romance.

The cherished duo - who wed in 2015 - shot to fame on their popular Channel 4 series Escape to The Chateau back in 2016. The programme followed the renovation of their lavish French chateau and the special events business that they operated there.

Away from the show, which concluded in 2022, Dick and Angel are parents to two children: 12 year old Arthur and Dorothy, aged 11.

However, it transpires that Dick and Angel almost called it quits on their relationship back in the day, after Dick's worry about their 19-year age gap, reports Devon Live.

"The first date I ever went on was with Angela, after having been separated for six years," he said on the How To Be 60 podcast last year.

But it appeared that although enjoying their time together, he had reservations about how compatible they were because of their age difference and even suggested calling it quits.

He revealed: "We had a lot of fun and it got to the stage really quite quickly where I said, 'We're going to have to stop this, this is wonderful having a lot of fun.

"But you need to go and find a young man and do all the things that young people do, and I'm just going to get on'." After Angel told him how much she wanted to be with him, Dick was faced with "one of the biggest decisions" of his life.

Nevertheless, he decided to give it a shot and the pair have gone from strength to strength since. He expressed: "It was a really interesting 'whoa, OK,'" he remembered.

"It did take me probably less than a second to go, 'OK, what the hell, we're going to do it,' and that's the reason why I'm living in a castle with two lovely young kids.

"It makes no sense. We fit, we work together, we're complete opposites, it's illogical that we're together, but it does work."
