M60 body: Man found dead in field near major motorway named as family pay moving tribute

The sister of a man who was tragically found has described him as "a local legend" whose death was "such a shock" in a moving .

raced to the field near to Sandgate Road, in Whitefield, Bury, at around 10.45am on Monday, April 14, following reports that a man was found unconscious between Prestwich Heys Club and Parrenthorn Road. Sadly, they arrived to find the man deceased. He has now been named by his family as 37-year-old Daniel Naughton, known as Danny, who has been described as a "local legend" on the nearby Hillock estate where he lived all his life.

Danny, a big fan, leaves behind dad Hubert Naughton, his sister Zoe Derbyshire, 37, and his nieces Keia, 14 and Shanay, 22. Zoe described him as an "amazing" and "loveable" character and that his death was "such a shock."

"He was just amazing" she said. "He was a local legend. He will be missed by many, many people. He was a big United fan. He just loved life. He was a loveable character. He lived on the estate all his life and he was loved by so many people."

The family are still awaiting confirmation of his cause of death from the coroner's office. "It was so tragic the way he was found," Zoe continued. "It was such a shock. I think it's been a big shock for the community as well. He was a big part of it so I think its had a ripple effect and affected a lot of people."

Zoe has launched a in order to help give him the 'best send off.' Almost £1,500 has already been raised.

A police cordon and forensics were spotted at the scene of the M60 on the afternoon of Monday, Aptil 14. Officers located the man on Danny between Prestwich Heys Football Club and Parrenthorn Road, where he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

A Greater Police spokesperson said at the time: "At around 10.45am yesterday morning (Monday, April 14 2025), we were called to reports of an unconscious male on Sandgate Road in Whitefield, Bury. Officers attended and sadly found a body in nearby open ground. Enquiries into the man’s death are ongoing."
