Over three decades after Freddie Mercury's death, a new documentary claims to have uncovered evidence that one of the greatest stars in rock history fathered a daughter, who bears what has been described as an “utterly unmistakable resemblance” to him.
The Channel 5 documentary Freddie Mercury: Secret Daughter, fronted by journalist and biographer Lesley-Ann Jones, explores the extraordinary claims made by a woman only known as B.
Now 48, B says she is Freddie’s only child, and was born in 1976 after a brief liaison between Mercury and the wife of one of his close friends.

Up until now she has lived a quiet life in Europe, working as a healthcare professional and raising children of her own, but B is finally stepping forward with her story.

Some of the evidence she has produced which appeared to back up her claims include 17 volumes of Mercury’s handwritten journals, which were gifted to her before his death in 1991.
These journals form the backbone of Jones' upcoming memoir, Love, Freddie. In the documentary, the journalist reveals she has not only exchanged emails with B, but also met her in person in Montreux, Switzerland, where Mercury frequently recorded music.
She admitted that her likeness to the Queen frontman is striking. Jones explained: “I was struck by her utterly unmistakable resemblance to Freddie. She has his eyes, his jaw, his cheeks and his nose. His hands and skin tone and hair texture.
“There’s also a particular set of pictures which were taken by Mick Rock, the man who shot the 70s. He was a close friend of Freddie’s. He knew about B, he did a private photo session with them together and he gave Freddie the negatives. I’ve seen pictures.”
Although Jones has urged her to release the images, B refused, insisting on protecting her family’s privacy. “They are records of my dad and the grandfather of my children who cherish them and we want them to remain private,” she said.
Her handwritten letter, which was published as part of her book, states: “Freddie Mercury was and is my father. We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life.
“He adored me and was devoted to me. The circumstances of my birth may seem, by most people’s standards, unusual and even outrageous.
“That should come as no surprise. It never detracted from his commitment to love and look after me. He cherished me like a treasured possession.”
Although Jones was initially sceptical when B approached her with these claims, she insists that B has no interest in fame or fortune. She added: "My instinct was to doubt everything, but I am absolutely sure she is not a fantasist."
According to Jones, B was not included in Mercury's will, but instead privately provided for to maintain secrecy. She explained the circumstances leading up to B's birth, saying: “His only child was conceived accidentally with the wife of one of his closest friends, while his friend was away on an extended business trip. For the Roman Catholic mother, abortion was out of the question.”
