A footballmatch had to be postponed after the pitch was invaded overnight by 200 sheep that left huge piles of poo. Officials decided there was a health risk to players and the game was called off. Cornishside St Neot AFC posted a sheepish comment on their Facebook page claiming it was a “football first.”
The post read: “Our game versus Looe Town 2nds has unfortunately had to be postponed. Now I’m sure you’ve heard of games being called off for rain, snow and ice, we have what we believe to be a football first, our game has had to be postponed due to….. Sheep! That’s right, sheep!
“Unfortunately we had a pitch invasion of sheep overnight and this morning, we have removed them but they have left us behind several presents of a smelly variety which has made our pitch unplayable.”

A flock of 200 sheep broke out from a nearby field and stayed on the football pitch. This led to a spate of jokes. on Facebook Stephen Rowe said: “Match abaaaandoned.” But others were more critical saying the game should have gone ahead.
Andy Trethewey said: “Couldn’t the sheep sh*t been cleared off Yesterday eve or whenever it happened .Few helpers/players ?.. Years ago when I played for Mount. Our Pitch was in a Field along from Asda Bodmin,on the left.(where the industrial estate is now)..Several times we had to clear the Cows sh*t up off the pitch before we played.”
It’s the second time this month a match has been called off because of poo.

A referee ruled there was too much goose poo on the pitch and called off the game between Spelthorne and Wembley in the Combined Counties Football League Division One before kick off. He decided there were just too many droppings across the field which meant a health risk to the players.
Wembley took to social media to express their disappointment. On their X - formerly Twitter - account they wrote: “GAME POSTPONED”. Prior to the kick off the referee has deemed the pitch at Spelthorne Sports unsafe to play due large amounts of goose droppings the pitch.”
The match between St Neot AFC and Looe 2nds will now be played later in the season.
