A historic home once owned by a Formula One team boss is on the market for £800,000. The stunning three-bed Georgian house was the former residence of an F1 legend who played a big role in motor racing in the UK - and unearthed a future star.
Colin Crabbe entered cars in 17 Formula One races back in 1969 and 1970 but had a big role on the scene for many years. The founder of Antique Automobiles had drivers in his team such as Ronnie Peterson, who twice nearly won the F1 championship, and F1 and Le Mans driver of many years Vic Elford. Colin died earlier this year.
Baston House in Baston, near Spalding, Lincolnshire, was built in 1830. It was not only his home but also the hub of his car-restoration empire - attracting collectors from across the globe, as reported by Luxury Property News.

The Grade II listed property offers over 3,100 sq ft of space and features elegant high-ceilinged rooms, sash windows, ornate fireplaces and a dual-aspect garden room with underfloor heating. A separate coach house includes garaging and two annex suites - perfect for guests or as a home business base.
It also boasts a walled garden with mature borders, privacy, and even a 5m swim-spa pool. His son, Alastair Crabbe, said: “Baston House was more than just a home to my father - it was the heart of his adventures.
“It’s where he brought extraordinary cars back to life and where he shared his passion with so many. We hope the next owners will appreciate the spirit of the place and the stories it holds.”
James Abbott, of Savills, added: “Baston House is a truly special property - not only for its architectural elegance and beautifully preserved Georgian features, but for the legacy of its former owner. Colin Crabbe was a man of vision and character, and this house reflects that in every detail.
“It’s a home with soul, history, and a story that will resonate with anyone who values heritage and individuality.” The property is listed with Savills at a guide price of £800,000. You can view more about it on their website.
Who was Colin Crabbe?According to the Autosport website, Colin was "the man who gave Ronnie Peterson his big break". Ronnie was a successful F1 driver in the 1970s who won 10 Grands Prix in nine seasons.
He twice finished runner-up in the Formula One World Drivers' Championship. Crabbe had earlier in his life hunted down valuable motors overseas to bring them back to the UK for racing.
Autosport said in its obituary earlier this year that "hugely valuable Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Jaguar machinery were all discovered by Crabbe in the unlikeliest of Latin American or African locations, allowing them to be brought back to life and used again".
