Mumbai: A youth has been arrested by the Cuffe Parade Police for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman under the false promise of marriage. He was produced before the court on Monday and has been remanded to police custody. The accused has been identified as Rajesh Arjun Nadar (31).
A case of sexual assault and deception has emerged from the Cuffe Parade area, where a 31-year-old man allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman after promising to marry her and later reneged on the promise. The Cuffe Parade police have arrested the accused following the victim's complaint.
According to the victim, who resides with her family in the Cuffe Parade locality, she first met the accused, Rajesh Arjun Nadar, in March 2023 while taking her pet dog for walks. Their acquaintance soon developed into a romantic relationship, during which the accused allegedly lured her into physical intimacy by assuring her of marriage.
Beginning in November 2024, the accused reportedly began a physical relationship with the woman. In February 2025, she discovered she was pregnant after missing her menstrual cycle. When she brought up the topic of marriage, the accused began to avoid her and failed to take any concrete steps until March 2025.
Left with no choice, the woman filed a complaint at the Cuffe Parade Police Station. Based on her statement, an FIR was registered under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police arrested the accused from his residence.
According to investigators, the accused lived alone in Ghatkopar while his mother stayed nearby. Under the pretext of marriage, he allegedly engaged in repeated sexual relations with the woman. When she became pregnant and confronted him about marriage, he started avoiding her and ultimately refused to marry her.
Distressed, the woman approached the police, leading to the registration of the case and the prompt arrest of the accused. He was produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigation.
