Jhabua (Madhya Pradesh): A private worker of RTO office died at Pitol check post in Jhabua district on Thursday when a trolley crushed him during checking. Deceased, identified as Rajesh Meena of Karangarh village under Mandsaur was trying to stop two big trolleys (numbers GJ 07 TU 1647 and RJ 04 GB 7731) when he came under their wheels.
After the accident that took place around 10 am, all private workers and government RTO staff ran away from the spot, leaving no one to help or give information about what happened. Later, his body was taken to Dahod.
Notably, CM Dr Mohan Yadav had closed all RTO check posts on July 20, 2024 and made checking points instead.
Sources said for a few months, government workers carried out regular checking at Pitol, which brought money to the government. But two months ago, the new RTO officer Pungalia changed everything. Source said he hired about 40 private workers and started putting up barriers and collecting money illegally.
Truck drivers complained they now pay ₹1,000 instead of the official Rs 1,700. Driver Selu Singh from Bikaner said every driver carries money and pays private employees without showing vehicle papers.
Local transporter Asgar Ali said his vehicles are stopped and troubled for illegal money collection while travelling between Dahod, Jhabua and Indore.
