Mumbai Police is set to deploy more than 21,000 personnel to maintain law and order during Ganesh Visarjan or idol immersion ceremony on Anant Chaturdashi, an official said on Friday.
The police, for the first time, will use artificial intelligence for route management and other traffic-related updates, he added.
The deployment includes 12 additional commissioners of police, 40 deputy commissioners, 61 assistant commissioners, 3,000 officers and 18,000 police personnel.
Further, 14 companies of the State Reserve Police Force, four of the Central Armed Police Forces, quick response teams, and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS) will also be stationed.
At least 6,500 community Ganesh idols and about 1.75 lakh household idols are expected to be immersed at various beaches, other water bodies, and 205 artificial lakes in the city, said Satyanarayan Choudhary, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order).
The police have prepared in a detailed security plan with the help of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), he said, adding that life guards will also be stationed at immersion sites.
Additionally, drones will be used to monitor crowds along with 10,000 CCTVs across the city. Meanwhile, flying private drones has been prohibited.
Traffic police will also be deployed in the city to ensure a smooth movement of vehicles, said Anil Kumbhare, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
Bomb threat in Mumbai
Mumbai police on Friday said they received bomb threats over Mumbai Traffic Police's official WhatsApp number. According to the police, the threat claimed to have planted 34 'human bombs' in as many vehicles across the city.
The claim further states that an organisation named 'Lashkar-e-Jihadi' has sent 14 Pakistani terrorists into India. The message further states that 400 kg of RDX will be used in the blast.
"Mumbai Police is alert and security across the state has been enhanced. All angles of the threat are being investigated," the police said.
