These days, the market for second-hand mobile phones is growing rapidly in India. The second-hand smartphone market gives users a chance to buy smartphones of premium brands at affordable prices. Although questions arise about the authenticity of refurbished or resold mobile phones, buyers choose them because of their low price. You will find second-hand mobiles on many online platforms and apps, but before buying them, definitely check whether it is a stolen phone or not. Otherwise, you may have to face trouble and a big loss.
Generally, genuine refurbished mobiles are available on e-commerce platforms like Amazon and Flipkart. These second-hand mobiles are often samples or slightly damaged, which are repaired and sold. These platforms sell them at affordable prices. However, many buyers prefer the offline market to buy second-hand phones. In such a situation, their source must be checked before buying them. The government has made it very easy to check the genuineness of the phone through an SMS.
How to check?
For, you should know the IMEI number of the phone, which is usually written on the box of the phone.
If the phone you are buying does not have a box, go to the dial pad of the phone, type *#06# and press the send or call button.
The 15-digit IMEI number will appear on your screen.
After noting the IMEI number, you have to go to your message app.
Then you have to send a message to 14422.
Type KYM in the body of the message, then give a space and after that, enter the 15-digit IMEI number.
For example, send 'KYM 123456789012345'.
Then send it to 14422.
After sending the message, you will get a reply message from the government, which will say whether the phone is stolen or not. If the message says 'blacklisted', it means that this phone is stolen and its IMEI number has been blacklisted. If you buy a stolen phone, you may also face legal troubles. Therefore, before buying any second-hand phone, check it thoroughly.
